The Sam Lupfer House

Samuel Lupfer, Sr. was a Pennsylvanian who moved to the Osceola County area in 1888. He was the superintendent of the Rose/Disston sugar plantation in the area that later became St Cloud Along with Rufus E. Rose, Lupfer raised the sugar cane and ran an open-kettle sugar mill. He also established a small private school named the Sunnyside school. Reference Link After the Sugar Mill operation folded, Lupfer Sr moved his family to Kissimmee where he began managing the Kissimmee Lumber Company on Clyde Street. Reference Link

In 1913, this home at 514 W Verona St was the residence of S.W. Thornton. S W Thornton who came to Kissimmee in 1909 with his wife from Nebraska to spend the winter with his wife. “All of my life and that means a long time, for I have reached the four score mile post, I spent on a farm before coming here with the exception of eight yeaars, four of which was as a soldier in the 8th Iowa Infantry during that lamentable Civil war and the other four as a photographer, so you see I speak knowingly of the soil and what it can be made to produce, and also I have had a very close acquaintanceship with all kinds and varieties of weather. … Read more here in the front page article in the Kissimmee Valley Gazette - https://ufdc.ufl.edu/UF00091504/00609/1x?search=s+w+thornton

801 Mabbette St - J.W. Wilder home
This house was built prior to 1914 and was the home of J W Wilder, his wife and his daughter. J W Wilder had moved to Kissimmee from Marion, Illinois where he had run a successful photography studio. Reference Link. He opened his Kissimmee photo gallery the week of June 17, 2010.
This house is made primarily of heart pine when slash pine was abundant and the wood very old and dense.
Public records incorrectly indicate that this house was built in 1925. The street address was originally 401 Mabbette Street, however, the streets were renumbered and this is now located at 801 Mabbette Street.
